8 Electrodes Dual Combination TENS Unit & Muscle Stimulator w/ Carrying Case, AC Adapter, Lead Wires, and Electrodes
TENS and Muscle Stimulator with 8 Electrodes
The device itself is portable (fits in the palm of my hand,) can clip to your belt, and runs off a 9 volt battery. Battery life is impressively long, lasting me over 4 months, granted I use the unit every 3-4 days after practice.
While an EMS unit is supposed to help you retain your muscle mass, a TENS unit will help you deal with muscle strains and injuries. If you have chronic pain or muscle related injuries, the TENS unit will help you dull or aleviate the aches in the troubled zone.
Offers 8 Treatment Programs, 5 TENS, 3 Muscle Stiimulator
Adjustable Pulse Width, Pulse Rate, and Frequency
5 Year Warranty on the New TwinStim Plus Dual Combo Unit 8 Electrode Unit Why use medication when a drug free cost effective solution exists? The Satisfaction Guarantee, 5 Year Warranty 8 Electrode TENS Muscle Stimulator Combo Unit has a Stronger 100mA then any other 8 Electrode Portable Unit on the market. It is very similiar to the TwinStim Plus Dual Combo Unit that we also carry. The main difference between the TwinStim Plus Dual Combo and the TwinStim Plus Dual Combo is is that the TwinStim Plus is a 4 Channel, 8 Electrode TENS / Muscle Stimulator Machine. It has 8 Electrode Pads instead of four. The TwinStim Plus 5 Adjustable Modes of TENS, and 3 Modes of Muscle Stimulation. The TwinStim Plus 8 Electrode Combo Unit also comes with a Power Supply. The TwinStim Plus 8 Electrode TENS / Muscle Stimulator has a long battery life and uses 4 AA Batteries. The TwinStim Plus is very portable as well and comes with a sturdy metal belt clip. It also comes with a Timer and Compliance Meter. The TwinStim Plus weighs only 425 grams. The TwinStim Plus is for people who would like a Combination TENS / Muscle Stimulator and would like to use 8 electrode pads on different parts of the body. TENS Units are used to control Chronic and Acute pain including Rheumatoid and Osteo-arthritis, Back pain, Menstrual Pain, Labour Pain, Peripheral Nerve Injuries, Shingles, Headache and Migraine, Cancer Pain, Trigeminal Neuralgia, Phantom Limb Pain, Sports Injuries, Sciatica, Aching Joints, Post Operative Pain, Muscular Pain, Whiplash and Neck Injury and many other painful conditions. Electronic Muscle Stimulators (EMS) are used for both medical treatment and cosmetic purposes (conditioning and toning). Medical conditions treated by Muscle Stimulation include: Muscle Spasms, Long-term Disuse after Fracture or Prolonged Bed Rest, Strengthening for Joint or Muscle Injury, Immobilized Limbs, Atrophy Prevention, Bells Palsy, Stress Incontinence, Muscle Weakness

Using a TENS Machine For Chronic Pain
A Transcutaneous (which means through the skin) Electrical Nerve Stimulator machine, thankfully shortened to a TENS machine, is a small battery operated device that sends electrical impulses through wires to electrodes attached to the skin on or near the painful area.
You can personally control how strong and what frequency the electrical impulse is set at. It's a prickly feeling and research suggests that the sensation distracts ones attention from pain, and works on the principles of the Gate Theory.
It transmits the electrical impulse to the large nerve fibres, and closes the 'gates' of the small nerve fibres that are sending pain signals to the brain.
It is about the size of a PDA, and is designed to be portable so usually has a clip so you can attach it to your clothing. There are different types of electrodes pads. There are some that need to be used with gel and there are adhesive electrode pads. Some can cause skin irritation, but there are many types to try. They are not everlasting, and need replacing. It is safe to wear the electrode pads all day.
The following groups cannot use it:
- When the cause of the pain is not known or not diagnosed.
- Pregnancy (unless specifically medically advised).
- Pacemakers
- Epilepsy or certain types of heart disease.
In the UK, you can be referred to a Pain Clinic by your doctor, and if applicable, they will give you one to trial, and the pack usually contains a voucher to buy one at a very decent discounted price.
I had one for about a month, and found it would only work for me in short bursts. The particular brand that I used, I applied the pads when the skin is slightly damp for better adhesion. There are others though that require the skin to be completely dry. It is important that you read the instructions for your brand of TENS machine.
As I've said, you can use the TENS machine all day, however there are some restrictions to adhere to: You cannot use the TENS machine:
- While driving or operating machinery. The nurse at the pain clinic said this was very important. God forbid something happened while driving, your insurance will be invalid.
- While in the bath
- While lying down
- On damaged and broken skin
This is a general list and not exhaustive. While it hasn't worked for some, others have found it to be a welcome relief and alternative to medication.
Before trying a TENS machine you must talk to your doctor or health professional to make sure it can be used for your condition.

What is a Tens Machine?
TENS stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation which basically means that stimuli are sent to nerves in the skin via an electrical current. These stimuli are painless and actually have the effect of relieving pain. A TENS Machine is a device consisting of a current generating unit with wires leading to pads which attach to the skin of the person in need of pain relief. The electrical pulses are passed along the wires in different intensities and at different intervals to create soothing, pain relieving effects to nerve endings in the skin. This also generates a warmth in the area where the current is being received which relaxes the tensed muscles and eases stiffness. It also has the effect of promoting the production of hormones called endorphins which act as natural pain killers. Pain relief is usually felt almost immediately and continues long after treatment.
TENS Machines are commonly used by physical therapists to treat pain and to deliver topical medications deeper into the tissue through a technique called iontophoresis.
TENS Machines are used by many individuals to relieve or reduce muscle pain, arthritis pain, chronic back pain, and pain resulting from injury or surgery.
Because they stimulate the muscles they have even been found to reduce bladder incontinence, and are used for toning and shaping the body.
The Family Doctor 11 units are portable and battery powered. This makes them very convenient to use whenever you need them and wherever you are - even while you work. You can easily adjust the intensity of the current for maximum comfort and pain relief. You can attach the pads directly over or nearby the affected area, or over primary nerves which can sometimes provide more effective or more widespread pain relief.
The Family Doctor 11 is a state of the art T.E.N.S (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) device that was developed based on physics, bionics and electro biology. It combines theories of classical Chinese therapeutic treatments and modern micro electronic technology as well as clinical practice to produce a personal massage experience for the user. They have 6 different microcomputer programs, designed to deliver the effects of the Traditional Chinese therapies of hammering, acupuncture, naprapathy, cupping scraping and massage. They also have four major integrated prescription modes that are balance/relax body, body shaping, neck/shoulder
